Where does biodynamics comes from and since when ?

The foundations of biodynamic agriculture is based on a lecture Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) to European farmers in Germany during the month of June 1924. This man, great philosopher in his time, had one faculty to connect the components of the agriculture for their spiritual aspects and felt that science is a fine invention, but it should not follow the point of forgetting all the achievements of our ancestors in terms of agriculture there are 7900 years.
This type of agriculture that remains a utopia for most Cartesian agronomists is increasingly practiced by farmers having realized the negative impact of conventional farming and seeking a connection with nature a little less dependent lobbyings of the chemical industry. Each biodynamic tends to his own biodynamic following more or less assiduously recommendations of planetary and lunar calendars. Spiritual perception of each is different which causes a different perception of biodynamic agriculture from one farm to another, but would not this interesting way of this type of agriculture: Diversity !

Why are there bad days for gardening ?

The moon does not always located at the same distance from the earth. When she is the nearest (perigee) or the farthest (apogee), we consider that its influence is very disturbed. All the work done on those days might suffer. So it’s better to refrain from gardening when the moon is at its apogee or perigee.

What are: day leaf, flower, fruit, root ? (Sidereal rhythm)

By effecting its rotation around the earth each month the Moon passes in front of the 12 constellations of the astrological zodiac, as does the sun in one year. The sidereal rate is the period between two successive passages of the Moon before the same group of stars (hence the adjective sidereal) zodiac. It lasts 27.3 days
The use of this rhythm was popularized by Maria ThunAg who proceeded to daily radish seedlings in poor soil and no irrigation. She would have found morphological variations, with parts of the plant more or less stimulated by the day in question, and supposed influence of the zodiac constellation of the time of sowing.
Conversely the plants belong to either of these categories in that part of the plant used: then it must sow them and care for them in preference to day : sheet, fruit, flower or root.

Type of plant strength Examples
Fruits plants / seeds Fire all fruits, cereals, legumes
Flowers plants Air flowers, broccoli, oilseeds (canola, flax, sunflower …) etc.
Leaves plants Water cabbage, lettuce, parsley, spinach, etc.
Roots plants Earth carrots, turnips, onions, radishes, potatoes, etc.

Gardening with the moon has its supporters and detractors. The fact remains that the lunar calendar is a compilation of centuries of experience of the first farmers. We must take this calendar as a guide that allows you to put the odds in your favor to succeed all your work, sowing, planting, harvesting, size … Gardening in harmony with nature can not hurt your garden.
